The new season of the Diablo® IV
Diablo® IV - Season of Hatred Rising is a single-player role-playing game where players are thrust into the depths of Sanctuary’s most corrupted regions, where hatred has taken root, spreading darkness and malevolence throughout the land. It’s the new season in the Diablo® IV franchise.
Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. continues to evolve its dark fantasy universe with the release of Diablo IV: Season of Hatred Rising, a seasonal update that brings fresh content and mechanics to an already captivating ARPG. Building on the foundations laid by its base game, this update enriches the story, enhances gameplay, and introduces new challenges and mechanics.
A world in need of hope
Diablo IV is set after Diablo III: Reaper of Souls. In the game, the gates of heaven are closed after Maltheal, the Angel of Death, destroyed much of Sanctuary. However, unbeknownst to Heaven, Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto and the canonical mother of humanity, is set loose from her prison. Her return ushered in chaos, and the age of darkness and misery set upon Sanctuary.
It is up to the players, known as the Nephalem, to help the people of the Sanctuary. They will need to fight demons lurking everywhere. With each kill, you can get gifts and coins from the people you helped. Diablo IV is set in an open-world game map with five unique regions, a day and night cycle, and ever-changing weather. Hopeless people needing your help fill the land that you will soon find that you will never run out of things to do.
The missions of the game are non-linear, and you are free to take them however you like. You can go on an adventure on your own, or you can team up with other Nephalem to take down as many demons as possible. Teaming up is best if you are going to fight the newborn big bosses. There are hundreds of dungeons in this game, all of which are randomly generated. Inside, you will find hundreds of legendary items to equip.
A darker turn of the Diablo® IV
Diablo® IV - Season of Hatred Rising expands the storyline of Diablo IV with a fresh narrative that takes place following the events of the base game. Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto, was central to the base game’s story, and this new season explores the aftermath of her defeat. As the world of Sanctuary lingers in the aftermath of chaos, a new dark force emerges, known only as “The Hatred.” This force, born of deep-seated resentment and malice, infects both humans and demons, turning them into bloodthirsty creatures that feed off hatred.
In this new season, players take on the role of the hero once again, tasked with unraveling this new force while grappling with their own internal struggles and moral dilemmas. The writing in Season of Hatred Rising is an improvement over the base game’s sometimes predictable plot, offering more nuance and a deeper dive into the psychological effects of corruption. The game ensured that the stakes felt personal, with NPCs reflecting the emotional toll this new threat is taking on the world.
In this game, massive heralds of Hell, carrying blood-red portals on their backs, have been seen trampling through Sanctuary. Once just the stuff of grim tavern tales meant to spook weary travelers, these creatures have been brought to life by the hatred of Mephisto, whom locals call “Realmwalkers.” These Realmwalkers can be a menace to an entire region at once, unleashing nightmares born of hatred through the portals embedded in their bodies.
New features and gameplay mechanics
A significant feature of this season is the introduction of Hatred Zones. These areas on the map are corrupted by The Hatred, creating deadly environments that challenge even the most seasoned players. These zones are home to elite enemies, although they also offer lucrative rewards for those who are brave enough to venture into them. While exploring these zones, players must navigate environmental hazards and constant waves of corrupted creatures. A dynamic threat-reward balance is at play, pushing players to either retreat or press forward for high-tier loot.
Additionally, a new gameplay mechanic known as the "Hatred Gauge" tracks players' actions throughout the world. The gauge rises when players commit certain actions that contribute to the corruption—such as striking down innocents possessed by The Hatred or making morally ambiguous choices in quests. As the Hatred Gauge fills, it can have both positive and negative consequences, forcing players to make careful decisions in the game. At higher levels of the Hatred Gauge, players gain temporary boosts to their stats, although they also attract stronger enemies and face harsher penalties when they fall in combat.
Offers endgame activities and seasonal progression and rewards
For high-level players looking for fresh challenges, Season of Hatred Rising delivers several new endgame activities. It introduces the "Catacombs of Hatred," a dungeon system with randomly generated maps and enemies, ensuring that no two runs feel the same. These dungeons are designed with extreme difficulty in mind, offering tough-as-nails bosses and puzzles that require sharp wit and perfect execution to conquer for players.
The season also brings new world bosses, each tied to The Hatred's corruption. These bosses are visually stunning, and they provide a demanding test of teamwork, as their mechanics force players to work together to overcome the overwhelming odds. Coordinated group play is rewarded with top-tier loot and unique seasonal items that grant powerful buffs. Moreover, a hallmark of Diablo IV’s seasonal content is its reward system, and Season of Hatred Rising does not disappoint.
As players participate in the season’s activities, they unlock progression tiers filled with cosmetic items, weapons, armor, and mounts. These seasonal rewards give players ample reason to keep grinding through the various challenges presented by The Hatred. It also has introduced a new set of runes and rune words exclusive to this season. These powerful items offer exciting new ways to customize your character, enabling more diverse builds. However, the game’s learning curve can be steep at first.
